NBC was founded on November 15, 1926 by the Radio Corporation of America, which was founded by David Sarnoff. NBC, the National Broadcast Company is the oldest major broadcast company in America. The radio network began in 1926. The television broadcast network began airing in 1939 and the sports broadcasting network began in 2012. NBC was taken over by General Electric in 1986, but is currently owned by NBC Universal and Comcast. In NBC's early days, there were red and blue networks. The Blue Network later became ABC. Many performers including Al Jolson, Jack Benny, Bob Hope, and Fred Allen, got their starts at NBC News. In 1975, NBC launched the NBC News and Information Service (NIS). This provided viewers and listeners with 55 minutes of news per hour, so this was an all-news radio broadcast. This ended in 1977. NBC News Radio began in 2012.

The current chairman is Bob Greenblatt. NBC News is sometimes referred to as the "Peacock Network" because of its colorful logo. The National Broadcast Company covers shows such as Today, NBC Nightly News, and Dateline.
